Running In Circles

So today’s 10k run was on the 1/8 mile track at my gym.  I have never run more than a couple of miles on the track because of the running in circles bit, which really is no different than running on a treadmill.  Having other folks walking and running on the track makes it challenging, especially when there are runners passing you.  I don’t know about you but I have a hard time with that.  I increase my speed and try to keep up which obviously helps my running.  But, I always wonder if that bothers them or if they even realize I am trying to keep up or to stay in front.  My time is already improving.  My 10k pr time for a race is 50:11.  I did 48:something today but I don’t know about the accuracy of the mileage to the exact 10k so I will say it was close enough to a pr!

I will be back at the gym tomorrow morning to get a run in before my Open House.  I am hoping for a good turnout since the First Tiime Homebuyer Credit is pretty popular and the house I am holding open is $132,900.00.

Saving the Best for Last.

I ran on the treadmill today and the plan was a 10k.  No time goal, just a 10k.  So, as I started I got comfortable and started going faster, especially once I got to the 1/2 way point.  Then I decided, I’m halfway done I might as well get it done quicker.  So as I pumped up the speed it amazed me that I was able to go as fast I was going.  By the end of the 10k I was running at a 7.20 mile pace.

I ran my second marathon last October and that is a distant memory.  New milestones are making me realize how amazing the human body actually is.  I had no idea I could run at a 7.20 mile pace, until I did it.  I waited until I only had about 3 more minutes in my workout to find out.   Now, I have no excuses for not pumping up that speed, I will push myself to go longer and longer and ultimately increase my overall race time!

I am doing an Open House this Sunday, January 10 at 2693 Southlawn.  It is a great 4 bedroom 2 bath house completely updated, with a 3 car detached garage.  List price $132,900.00.  THAT’S RIGHT $132,900.00.  Great house with a great price!

10k at at time.

I read a blog yesterday from a fellow who is running 48 states (not Hawaii and Alaska) “virtually.”   I think that is pretty impressive but it also made me realize that even long time runners sometimes need to mix it up, keep it fun and exciting.  I always find it much easier to get the runs in when I am training for a race or a specific goal .

I am training to run another marathon in hopes of qualifying for Boston, 2011.  I decided my training routine would be to start by doing 10k at a time.  I am training for a 10k in mid February, a race I ran last year and placed 3rd in.  My plan is place 1st or 2nd this year and then once that is over bump up my training to the Dexter – Ann Arbor Run (13.1) in June.  What I am hoping this will do is make each portion of my 26.2 miles faster so I can get that qualifying time.  Anyway, I am following Mr. 48 state runner and doing my training 10k at a time!

Anyone thinking of buying an investment property this year?  Great time to talk to me, especially if you want Ann Arbor, college town/good investment especially long-term.  The 2010/2011 students will start signing leases over the next few months, call for more info.  734-755-6897.

A little push is all it took!

Gallup Park Bridge

All is took was Dennis to comment on yesterday’s blog post and it got me motivated to “just do it.”  I bundled up and went for a 10k run through AA Hills and Gallup Park and I ended up with 14k and a fantastic run!  Gallup Park is beautiful year round and the running path is clear.  Thanks Dennis for the push I needed.

I toured a beautiful completely renovated ranch home this morning on Geddes Ave. located directly between entrance to Gallup and entrance to the Arb.  It is a great location!  4 bedrooms and 2 baths.  2 fireplaces.  Finished basement.  Everything completely remodeled!  Want details?  734-755-6897.

Treadmill – watch tv, listen to ipod or what?

The treadmill was calling my name after getting the kids back to school this morning.  Not only was it pretty chilly (10 degrees without windchill factor) the roads were icy and I am not interested in an injury.  I started by watching tv but when the shows are boring then I switch to ipod and I still get extremely bored.  I can run outdoors for hours (literally) and have a hard time doing 60 minutes on a treadmill.  How do you focus?  Anyway, I got it done and finished it off with a mile on the track which is less painful (1/8 mile track) to me than the treadmill.  Go figure.

I was able also to get an offer for a client submitted on a house today. Things are picking up in the real estate market all around so if you want to make a move, do it now.  What are you waiting for?  Interest rates remain low and prices are still low.

Happy New Year.  The Year has started out bitter cold, sub zero wind chills.  And, although I have not run outdoors since Thursday,  many folks are still running and walking around town.  That is one reason I LOVE ANN ARBOR.  What great motivation to see other folks outside running or walking their dogs.  If they can do it, so can I!

I did opt for the treadmill at the gym this weekend.   I, along with a million other folks, hit the gym to start the year out with couple of good workouts.   I just hope everyone is still exercising come June.  January is the busiest month of the year at the gym and slowly diminishes month by month.

The real estate market should pick up any day now too.  I am writing an offer tomorrow on a house that has been for sale for three years.  Is that a sign of good things to come?    If you are making a move this year make sure you see if you are eligible for the existing home buyer credit of up to $6500.00.  See info on my Facebook Page at Colleen Hood, Ann Arbor’s Running Realtor.

Snow is falling.

I couldn’t bust through a one hour treadmill run today without agonizing thoughts in my head about the boredom, so, I mixed it up.  I ran 10 minutes on the track, 20 minutes on the treadmill, 10 minutes on the track and the final 20 minutes on the treadmill.  And, it was all at race pace!  So, that was a great cardio workout.

I am finally super close to the end of the Christmas gift list.  The stores are actually busy enough to park at the back of the lot but not too crowded to look around casually and lines are moving fast.   I haven’t even seen any stressed out rude behavior, yet.

The snow just started falling in Ann Arbor and I don’t know about the forecast.  But, I do know that as of right now, 2:06 pm, there have only been nine (9) new listings input on mls today.  Slowing down a bit for the holidays I am sure.  So, one would think it is a great time to buy a house if you are out there looking.

Got a tweet from Ivanka Trump and followed her lead on the Holiday cards.  www.paperlesspost.com.  The site has been added to my favorite list.   So far a big hit.
